Last night I decided to go on an evening walk after the kids went to bed. I was needing to get outdoors to breathe in some fresh air and clear my mind from the stresses of the week.
I intended for this to just be a short evening stroll.
Knowing me and my knack for getting lost, my husband cautioned me to be careful as I prepared to leave.
We joked about that and I told him that I was only planning to walk down the one main road I knew. He warned me that doing that wouldn’t give me a good workout.
But I didn’t mind that because I was only planning to take a short, easy evening walk.
I walked all the way down the one road I knew and decided that I was feeling good enough to keep going, but I had no idea which direction I should take.
Should I just turn around and walk back home down that one road?
Or should I try to turn onto another road and make a loop?
Should I turn left?
Or should I turn right?
Decisions on directions leave me shaking my head in utter confusion.
So…I called my husband to ask his advice.
He said that I could turn right onto the next road and talked me through the next several turns that would take me through a loop around the post and then back home. And he cautioned me that doing this would give me a 3 mile walk instead of the stroll I thought I was taking.
I felt good enough for a 3 mile journey, so I turned left and kept going.
The photos that you see here were all taken after I took that turn.
I was overwhelmed by the beauty of this place.
I’m feeling the first stirrings of falling in love with a new place as I fell in love with El Paso over two years ago.
I am reminded that there is overwhelming beauty to be found in all of God’s creation. It’s everywhere…we just need to look for it. And sometimes that takes a decision to just keep going on the path that He’s leading us on.
I’m so glad that I kept going on my walk last night so that I could behold these sights!
