One thing that is going to take some getting used to as far as living in El Paso goes is the dust storms.
They’re like nothing I’ve experienced before!
My husband warned me of them as we were preparing for our move out west.
He experienced quite a few when he was deployed to Iraq.
We had one such storm yesterday…probably the worse that we’ve had since we’ve been here. I had heard about it on the weather yesterday morning, but didn’t pay much attention.
Then as we were driving home from PWOC and visiting my husband’s office, the kids noticed that it was “getting foggy” outside the window.
I told that that it wasn’t fog they were seeing, but dust and sand…yikes!
By the time we got home it was really nasty out.
To show all my southern friends exactly what a dust storm looks like, I took some pictures of the view from our balcony.
Normally, we have a beautiful view of the Franklin Mountains outside our balcony.
It’s that beautiful…I LOVE IT!!!
Now, here’s the same view, but with a huge dust storm blocking the view of the mountains.
The brown haze you see is actual dust and sand flying outside in the air!
My husband felt drops of mud falling from the sky (rain + dust & sand = mud) when he came in from work.

They are the craziest thing and unless you have experienced one it is hard to imagine. Not too many months ago there was a dust storm out that way that got picked up and carried with a front bring us here in east Texas muddy rain. We woke up one morning and it looked like someone had come in and dropped buckets of mud everywhere. The car washes around here made lots of money that day.

Here in South Central Kentucky, we experience all four seasons. The odd thing about that is we experience them all in the same week. Sometimes the same day.

Same thing here in VA!

This morning we had something I’ve never experienced before: a snowstorm with thunder. Very odd.

We had one of those last year in Virginia. It was very odd!

We got that last year. Pretty awesome!

Monica! This is Meredith from PWOC. This is so funny… I was searching for a picture of the dust storms here to send some friends. I tried taking a picture but it didn’t turn out so I decided to go online and search for it. This site came up and as I was reading it, I realized it was yours! Thanks for the pictures!

That is so funny, Meredith!!! I’m so glad you found my site and some pictures of the dust storms. I had no idea we were supposed to have some today until I looked out my window and yep…couldn’t see the mountains! 🙂
