Field Trip to the Bakery

by Monica on October 15, 2009

A few weeks ago we read about bakers in our Social Studies book, The Usborne Book of Things People Do.

At the end of the week, the kids and I took a field trip to one of our local German bakeries in town.

We didn’t get a tour of the bakery or anything more involved. They’re still very young and it was enough for them to just visit the bakery, look at all the goodies and breads on display, and then order one of their own.

I planned for us to eat our fresh baked goods at the bakery, but seating was very limited and I wasn’t sure if I was parked legally in front of the store.

So to prevent getting kicked out or having my car towed, we took our pastries home to enjoy them.

And enjoy them we did!!

EA picked out a roll.

MC picked out a jelly filled doughnut.

And Will picked out a double-cinnamon roll.

Oh, and Mommy….well, this was my treat…Yumm!!

We go to the bakery ALL the time!
Well, we all load up in the car, and David sits with the boys while I run inside! Haha…
And then I have to dig deep for self control… Cause I really would eat all of our fresh goodies before we made it to the front gate. And by self control, I mean, I put our goodies in the back of the car- out of reach! ;)

What a good Idea! I think I will work in a similar section when we are done with the calendar and days of the week.

Oh my! I’m a sucker for a good danish and I can imagine in Germany, they’re probably fabulous! This was a very cruel post!

my mouth is watering for German baked goods – there is NOTHING like them here. Fill up before you come home.

When I was in college we had discipleship classes that met every monday morning for chapel time. Our leader, Sue, had a brother who had a bakery in town. We would once a month walk to the bakery (since it wasn’t far from campus) (well in the winter we would drive!) and feast on fresh bakery items for free!
