Last night I took my two oldest daughters out for haircuts and to eat at a restaurant of their choosing.
They chose Red Lobster.
As we sat there they began to open up and talk…really talk.
We talked about AWANA and how they are looking forward to being involved in the Bible Quiz again in the spring.
We chatted about school and other activities.
And then EA asked this question that really made me pause for a second. She asked, “Mommy, do we have anything planned for next weekend? Because this weekend was really busy…”
I knew exactly what she was asking and where that question was coming from.
She’s desiring a weekend of resting just as I am.
Our weeks have been really busy this semester…honestly, a bit busier than I would like.
We typically counter busy weeks with relaxed and restful weekends. But the last two weekends have been filled for us as well. My husband has had to travel out of town for work and we’ve found activities to keep us busy. We’ve been busy with good things…visiting with friends, field trips, birthday parties.
But being busy with even good things wears us down after a while.
Just like my little girl, I am looking forward to a weekend of rest.
We are all looking forward to a respite from the busy.
We have plans to eat at the dining facility on post for Thanksgiving. There will be no stress over a big family meal to prepare.
There will be quiet serving and enjoying the Army culture.
We’ll probably begin putting up the Christmas tree and decorating for our favorite season of the year as well.
There will be quiet moments of reading.
There will be fun moments of play.
There will be togetherness.
And there will be rest.
For all those things I am truly thankful for and I am looking forward to with anticipation and joy!
What are you looking forward to enjoying as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches?
