Recently, I’ve been a bit uninspired with our meals and with planning them out.
I love to try new recipes, but in this season, it’s just not working out. But cooking the same boring meals is just that….boring!
I’ve been in a meal planning rut!
To help get out of this rut, I decided to assign a theme for our meals for each day of the week.
I did a search and looked around to see what kind of themes others use and if this could possibly work.
I’m optimistic that this new plan will help.
Our daily themes are:
Monday – Mexican
Tuesday – Traditional
Wednesday – Sandwiches and/or leftovers
Thursday – Fun Food
Friday – Family Favorites
Saturday – Sandwich/Soup/Salad
Sunday – Pizza Night
I absolutely love Mexican/Tex-Mex food. It’s fun and fairly easy to cook. Things like tacos, enchiladas, taco salads, and quesadillas will grace our table on Monday nights.
Traditional food on Tuesdays will be things like meatloaf, roasts, stews, chicken and rice dishes and other comfort foods that are “traditional†in our families.
Between dance class and church activities on Wednesday afternoon and evenings, I don’t have time to cook a new meal. So, we’ll be enjoying sandwiches or leftovers from earlier in the week.
I hope to ask for suggestions from the children and my husband for our Family Favorites night.
You’ll notice that we don’t have a big Sunday dinner. Early on in our marriage, my husband and I decided against this tradition. Sundays are busy enough with church that we don’t wont to add the stress of a big dinner. We want the day to be focused on worship and then resting and enjoying family time.
Pizza night on Sundays will include homemade pizzas, frozen pizzas and maybe the occasional pizza delivery.
Have you ever used themes to help in your menu planning?
How did it work out for you?

We do just a few themed days during the week too!
Mondays are always breakfast for dinner
Thursdays are always something fast mommy can cook before dance
Fridays are usually our pizza night
Saturdays are Crockpot night
Sundays are leftovers most of the time.
Having a theme helps me not get in a rut! thanks for sharing your themes

What a great idea to have themes for each day!
We don’t have a huge Sunday dinner either! With church and then tons of cooking, it is just too much for us!

Maybe I should try this. I totally stink at meal planning. Ack.
Must ponder this theme idea…

I’ve been having a hard time with menu planning as of late too. Maybe the themed days would help me as well. Might have to give it a try.
