I lift up my eyes to the hills,
From where does my help come?
My help comes from the LORD,
who made heaven and earth.He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, he who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.The LORD is your keeper,
the LORD is your shade on your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
nor the moon by night.The LORD will keep you from all evil;
he will keep your life.
The LORD will keep
your going out and your coming in
from this time forth and forevermore.
I read my favorite Psalm during my time in God’s Word this morning.
I am so thankful for these verses that have seen me through my toughest moments.
It is these verses that I went to during difficult days as a pastor’s wife.
It is these verses that I prayed when my firstborn, my twin baby girls, were born way too early and fought to survive their first days.
It is these verses that I clung to when my mom was diagnosed with liver cancer and went through surgery to remove the cancer from her body.
It is these verses that I claimed during my husband’s two deployments and our geographical separations when the days were heavy with loneliness.
It is also these verses that I need on days like today.
Days that aren’t hidden within life’s toughest struggles.
Days that are seemingly ordinary.
But days that call for reliance on the Lord to be my keeper.
Days that start out with little ones waking before I’ve enjoyed the quiet.
Days that demand extra patience with an almost six year old going from a bad day to a no good very bad day in a matter of minutes.
Knowing that my help comes from the Lord—the very one that made the heavens and the earth provide me with peace in the midst of any raging storm.
Knowing that the One who keeps me will not slumber when I need Him so, comforts and restores my tired spirit.
Knowing that the Lord is my keeper, my protector, settles my restlessness and stills my fears.
Knowing that the Lord will keep my going in and coming out, not just today but forever provides my spirit and my soul with such indescribable peace during life’s hardships and in the days like today that are tinged with the need for reliance.
I am relying on Him today to meet my needs as a wife, as a homemaker, and as a mother who is His humble servant.
My heart is filled with thankfulness in knowing that He is my keeper.
