I have been working hard all weekend to get caught up on the Month of Challenges at The Lilypad. I finished last week on target and then throughout the week I got really behind. It’s so hard to make time for scrapbooking during the school week!
I just finished up and I’m ready for the newest challenge to be posted in the morning.
I love that these challenges are truly just that…they are challenging! They are stretching my creative muscles and getting me to put more thought into my layouts. BUT they’re not so challenging that they’re not do-able or useful.
Here are the layouts I completed for Month of Challenges this week:
Friend
This layout was for a “one word” journaling challenge. I had to choose one word to describe myself, use it on the page, and write about how it describes me. One thing I missed in the challenge instructions when I started this page was that it had to be a positive word. I got over half way through creating a layout about being socially awkward when I realized my mistake and had to completely change directions!
I ended up choosing the word “friend” and writing about being a friend and learning about what that means.
Just Breathe
This was another challenge that required heavy journaling. It was a “scrap therapy” challenge. I don’t use scrapping as therapy very often, but this was really beneficial to me! I journaled about a bad day we had with homeschool recently and tried to get all of my feelings and frustrations out in my writing on this. I covered some of it up with the title, which is okay. The point wasn’t necessarily to be able to read the journaling, but to get those feelings out and down on paper.
Forever Together
The challenge for this layout was titled “extraction with a twist”. We were to extract a photo and add a stroke to it so that it becomes a sticker element on our page. I found a photo of my girls’ walking through a grassy park. EA was actually forcing MC to hold her hand…she did that a lot when they were toddlers. I extracted the girls out of the background of that photo and added a stroke around them. This is a different type of page, but I kind of like it!
Your Amazing Smile
I created this layout for a scraplift challenge. I scrap-lifted a layout titled “New Place Like Home” by Tronesia. I really took inspiration from the many strips of paper on her page and that’s where the focus of my lift was.
Lovers + Friends
This layout was created for a template challenge. In this challenge we were required to keep several of the embellishments that were included in the template. It was quite hard to do that because I am used to deleting all the extras from the templates that I use and replacing them with other elements or going for a cleaner look.
Hello Love
As you can probably guess by looking at it, this layout was for another journaling challenge. It was actually storytelling challenge and we were required to write at least 150 words. I exceeded that by using 327 words in my journaling on this!
I wrote about the sweet relationship Will and Jenny have with one another. This photo of Will holding Jenny for the first time sparked those sentiments.
From Where I Stand
This layout was for a photography challenge to take and scrap a photo of our feet standing. We had to include the words, “where I stand” on our layout as well. I love these kinds of photos and I discovered a pinterest board full of ideas for them!
Sweet Moments
The challenge for this layout was to use a repeated element. The element we chose to repeat had to be repeated at least ten times and it didn’t have to be the same exact one, just the same type of element. Can you guess what I repeated? Yes, the arrows going around my photo and title!!!
Quiet the Mind
This layout was for a technique challenge. I love technique challenges because they always push me to learn a new skill or improve one I don’t use very often! In this challenge, we had to use paint or brushes as a photo mask. I found some paint in a mixed media kit I recently purchased and used that on this layout. I love the word art I used here, “quiet the mind and the soul will speak”. That is so very true!!
Coffee and Jesus
This last layout was for a title work style challenge. I’m not the best with creating big, bold titles for my pages, so I appreciated that this page forced me to to that and I LOVE it!!! We were required to use two alphas and two different fonts in the title of our page. I love playing with fonts, so this page was actually a lot of fun once I started on it!
That’s it for this week…I’m over half way done with the Month of Challenges at this point!
I’m looking forward to seeing where these challenges are going to take me next week!
