I have started a routine of going on a three(ish) mile walk around post in the evenings. It’s a great way to clear my mind from the day, listen to a podcast, and reach my fitness goals. This has become a sacred time for me.
Going on these evening walks have helped me to embrace this new place.
I loved living in El Paso. I loved the beauty of the rocky mountains and desert landscape.
But, because of these walks, I am now loving the beauty here in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. It’s so lush and green!
Our days here unpacking have been hard and stressful at times. My evening walks have helped me to unwind from busy, sometimes stressful days. It’s been soul-refreshing to just breathe in fresh air and witness the beauty of the land around me.
And I love the surprises that I receive from nature during these walks, too. On one evening, a mama deer and her fawn walked right in front of me. I was in shock at first and just could not believe what was happening! By the time I took out my camera for a picture, they were on their way back into the forest.
And then last night as I was walking by the lake, I saw a gaggle of geese by the road, drinking water from mud puddles.
This lake has become a favorite place for me. It’s at about the half-way point in my walk and I usually stop for just a few moments to soak up the beauty of God’s creation and take a few pictures.
Walking by the golf course with it’s rolling hills is also a favorite time in my evening walks.
I am thankful for moments of seeing…truly seeing…the beauty of God’s creation. I’m thankful for this new routine that is building into my spirit during this time of transition.
