Hi guys!!!
I’m so excited about a scrapbooking project that I’m going to be working on this week called Week in the Life.
Week in the Life is a seven day documentary project that was started by Ali Edwards in 2005 to “document the simple everyday details of life“.
You all know that I have been a long time digital scrapbooker. I am taking a challenge on with this project and I’m going to complete it in a paper album. This will be my first real go at paper scrapbooking!!! I am super thankful for the pocket pages that were included in the Week in the Life kit that I ordered from Ali Edwards.
I thought I would take a little bit of time today to share with you my plans for how I am going to go about completing this project.
Take lots and lots of pictures!
My first priority for the week is to take lots and lots of pictures…yes, even more than normal.
I want to capture photos of the big and small events that make up a week in our lives.
I want to capture our routines.
I want to capture the stories that make up our days.
My camera is charged and I’m ready to start shooting. In fact, I’ve already started shooting pictures this morning.
My camera will be by my side where ever I go this week.
And if I don’t have my big camera with me, there’s always my phone.
I’ll be sharing my photos here each day and on instagram. You can follow me @dailydwelling on Instagram. I’ll be using the hashtag #weekinthelife
Document, Document, Document
I printed out planning sheets for each day from Ali Edwards site.
I want to document the events and the stories that make up our days this week.
The planning sheets will be close at hand so that I can jot down special conversations, things that I want to remember, gratitudes and our daily routine from the week.
These written words along with the photos I take will be what makes up the focus of this project.
I’ll also be sharing these things along with my pictures each day right here. That will be the focus of my blog posts this week. I am beginning my Week in the Life project today, so tomorrow I’ll share my words and pictures from today. Each day I’ll be sharing my documentation from the day before.
Put a Simple Album Together
When the week is completed, I plan to sit down with the pictures I’ve taken, the words I’ve written and the Week in the Life Album & Kit I purchased from Ali to put together a simple album documenting our week.
My goal is to not have to add more to this album than what came with the kit. I want to keep it simple so that it is do-able.
Yesterday, I put together a framework for this album using the page protectors that came with the kits. I’m planning to follow Ali’s design plan and I set up my album following her suggestions and I’ll change them as needed.
I especially love the 3×8 timeline cards to use as dividers for each day. I already placed them in my album and used a yellow marker to highlight each day.
I’ve also already set up a title page. I didn’t glue or stitch anything down because this may change, but having a start makes me feel so much better about the task ahead.
I LOVE what Ali Edwards shared on her Facebook page about this project earlier today…
Give yourself permission to not give up documenting the next seven days. It’s never been about getting every single detail. It’s always been about capturing routines and rhythms and what’s real. If you miss a morning or an evening it’s no big deal. Start again. If you miss a whole day, start again the next morning. Have fun. Celebrate what’s good and reflect on what’s challenging.
And that’s really what this is all about…capturing the routines and rhythms of our lives.
The routines and rhythms of today will be do different a year from now and it will be such a blessing to have this album to look back on this exact time.
I encourage you to come back each day this week to get a glimpse into our routines, rhythms and the stories that make up our lives this week! Subscribe so you don’t miss anything!
I can’t wait to have this completed album in my hands to share with you!

Great intro post, I really like your setup pictures.
I am attempting this officially for the first time with Ali’s kit and cannot wait to see what I (and others in the community) come up with.
Thank you for posting!
