Our family is starting our first day of our new homeschool year today, which means that summer is basically over.
This has been a super busy summer filled with changes for us, the biggest of which was our move from El Paso, TX to Kansas. I can finally say that I feel that we’ve settled into our home and it is actually starting to feel like home.
The only room that isn’t filled with art and decor is the master bathroom. So, for this month’s Silhouette Challenge, I decided to rectify that a bit by creating some wooden pallet bathroom wall art.
I’m so excited to share this project with you today along with some other silhouette projects from my friends in the Silhouette Challenge group at the end of this post!
I actually had a different project in mind to work on this month, but realized at the last moment that I didn’t have the correct type of vinyl for that. I made a quick trip out to Wal-Mart (the only store in the town we live in) to see if they had it, and, of course they did not.
While browsing the craft section, though I came across this cute 12×12 inch wooden pallet and inspiration struck!
Along with the wooden pallet I also purchased some acrylic paint. I also used some extra vinyl I had on hand and the “He Restores My Soul” cut file from the Silhouette Design Store.
This was a pretty easy and quick project and it was my first time using vinyl as a stencil for painting on wood.
First I cut the design using the recommended settings for vinyl, weeded it and adhered it to the wooden pallet.
Then I painted over the entire front surface of the wood pallet with the acrylic paint. I wanted it to look a bit rustic, so I just did one coat of paint and left some empty spaces.
After the paint was fully dried, I removed the vinyl to reveal the beautiful word art.
This is now hanging on my bathroom wall and I absolutely love it!! I definitely see more projects like this in my future!

Thanks for sharing this project. I particularly like how you allowed the dark wood to show through along the edges—frames it beautifully. (P.S. Have a great homeschooling year! My homeschooled “baby” starts grad school in a few weeks, so we’ve been out of it for a while, but look back at those times with great memories, full hearts, and no regrets. :^)
