As many of you know, this week is full of preparations for our move back to the states from Germany.
The bulk will be done by Friday afternoon….we’ll have a virtually empty house. And then a few weeks later, we’ll fly home.
There have been times during this move that my head has been swimming with thoughts of all that has to be done. Literally swimming!
Through it all, my husband has encouraged me to make a list….write it down. Sometimes I did, but I’ll be honest and tell you that I’m not the best list maker. I want to be, it’s just not there.
Actually I did make one list in a tiny little notebook that I got just for list making during the move. Well, I lost the notebook.
Yesterday was the worse. Today is our last real day of preparing before the packers come in and take over our home on Thursday. It will be wild and crazy and everything needs to be ready.
So, yesterday afternoon, I took out paper and brain dumped. I started writing down everything I could think of that needs to be done.
As as I did that, I literally felt my stress level decreasing. And I started getting things done rather than dreading all that had to be done.
So….what works for me….WRITING LISTS! Preferably before you have to be told to write a list. When your head is swimming, take out paper, or open up a document, and start writing. Get it down on paper and out of your head.
Are you a list maker or a list maker wanna be, like me?

Oh my goodness! I think I am the Queen of List making! I make lists for everything: going on a trip, things I need to do each day, things I want to do during the week, grocery shopping, etc. We are working on our rental house to get it ready for a new tenant and every day I have a new list. I mark off the things that are done and I feel such a sense of accomplishment. If we do things that are not on the list, I actually add them on just so I can cross them off. At the end of the day I like to look at it and give myself a pat on the back for all the things that are completed. I’m glad the list making is helping you.

I am completely a list maker wannabe!! If I make a list, I lose it!! I do okay with shopping lists, but aside from that I am awful. After reading your post, I think I should give lists another try though.

I too am a list maker. My hubby makes fun of me for it. But I’m not the one who has ever forgotten to pack underwear on a trip. 🙂
