When I heard about the Spring Top Sewalong hosted by Made by Rae I immediately knew that this was something that I wanted to do.
It was the perfect challenge for me as I’ve just started sewing again.
I admire all of the patterns by Frog Legs and Ponytails, so the Amelia Shirt Pattern was an easy pick. Once I downloaded the pattern I began reading and studying as I picked out the perfect fabric for my shirt.
I found the fabric I used at Fashionable Fabrics by searching through the designers.
As soon as I clicked on the Ty Pennington Free Spirit fabric collection I was drawn to the two fabrics I chose.
The main fabric is Impressions Foliage in Chartreuse and I used Impressions Lace in Gray for the trim on the bottom and the tie.
My fabric arrived earlier this week and I made plans to spend the weekend sewing, but once I started Friday night, I knew I wouldn’t be going to bed until it was finished.
Just before midnight I ran up the stairs to my bedroom wearing my new spring top to show it off to my husband. I think I may have been singing! “I did it! I did it!!”
One thing that I am learning as I am sewing clothes is to not get worked up when there is a mistake and try new things.
As I was making this top I was able to adjust when I ran into a problem and I made bias tape for the very first time!!
This top isn’t perfect I’m sure, but it is something that I am so proud of.

Monica — ok so I just started tweeting today for the first time…and saw your blog and thought – looks fun. I picked three….so I thought after my morning time was coming to a close I would take a look at your recent tweet. This shirt is so cute and doable- love the print and the style…now I must go get a new sewing machine (Any suggestions?)
So I scrolled along looking and got to the bottom….your name is Monica and spelled like mine too.
I am so excited to see more postings in the future from you – I have a feeling I am goin to like you and your blog!
Thanks for sharing.
Monica

Well, hi Monica! I’m so glad you’ve started tweeting…it’s lots of fun! And I’m even happier that you’ve found me!!
As far as sewing machine suggestions…I just got a Singer Confidence machine from JoAnn’s. It was on sale for 1/2 price a few weeks ago and I’ve wanted to start sewing again (after seven years) so my husband told me to go for it. It’s a pretty basic machine and great for beginning, I think.
I look forward to getting to know you better here!

Hi! I found you over at Get Your Craft On! I love your shirt! I made one similar (also for Rae’s competition… hehe!) but I really like the band at the bottom of yours! Check it out here!
I don’t have a suggestion for a sewing machine. I borrowed mine from a friend a few weeks ago when I started sewing.
Anyway, I just wanted to say Hi! And I love the shirt!
