With swimming lessons on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, my crock pot has been getting a lot of use.
I love being able to come in from swimming and have our dinner all ready to dish out.
I made Bratwurst in the Crock Pot last night and we all loved it!!
I served them on a bun topped with onions, peppers and a little mustard.
Even Will, my most picky eater, seemed to like them.
Or so I thought.
At the end of our meal, Will says, “Mommy, I have an idea…” (this is a phrase that he uses a lot lately)
He continued with, “How about next time we just buy hot dogs instead of having these and pretending they’re hot dogs. Okay?”
I laughed so hard!!!
My husband commented that he was glad I was laughing because that could have been quite offensive.
It’s a good thing that I don’t take offense too easily.
To make bratwurst in the crockpot, just follow these simple steps:
- Brown a package of Bratwurst in a skillet (this gives them a good color when you’re done).
- Slice up a couple of onions and peppers.
- Mix two tablespoons of dijon mustard in about a cup and a half of apple juice. (many people use beer, but we don’t drink alcohol, so apple juice is a good alternative)
- Layer one sliced onion in the bottom of your crock pot.
- Place browned bratwurst on top of onion slices.
- Top bratwurst with remaining onion and peppers.
- Pour apple juice/mustard mixture over bratwurst, onions & peppers.
- Cook on low heat 5-6 hours.
I would have served these with a potato salad and had plans to stop by the grocery store on our way home, but Jenny was having a major melt down.
