For my birthday this year I told my mom she could visit the Silhouette Online Store and get any of the starter kits that they have.
I was super excited to receive the Heat Transfer Starter Kit because this is something that I have really been wanting to try.
I was also very excited because of our upcoming Disney trip that I wanted to make t-shirts for.
I set to work this week making t-shirts for my children using the tools that were provided in this starter kit.
The first shirt I made was a simple split Mickey with my son’s name on it.
I found this design file online through a Facebook group. If you have a silhouette cutting machine I encourage you to find a Facebook group for inspiration.
This shirt was the easiest of the ones that I made. There was a bit of a learning curve with getting the vinyl to heat up enough to adhere to the shirt. I had to press my iron down much longer than the 45-60 seconds that is recommended.
EA’s favorite Disney character is Tinkerbell. She fell in love with the tinkerbell movies when they came out years ago and has seen each one of them..multiple times. She cannot wait to meet Tinkerbell and all of her fairy friends during our time at Disney Land.
I traced and cut this design from an image that I found online. That is definitely the thing that I love about the Silhouette…there are no limits to what you can make!
This shirt is also done with the flocked heat transfer vinyl. I love the way it turned out!
MC loves all of the Disney princesses, but her favorite is Rapunzel.
This design was the hardest for me. It was a challenge to find the right image to trace and cut, but I finally did.
I actually cleaned the image up in Photoshop Elements before bringing it into the Silhouette software to trace and cut.
I’m sad, sad, sad to report that Miss Jenny did not get a customized t-shirt for our trip. I had a design cut out for her and then I was impatient while ironing the vinyl to her shirt and ended up ripping the vinyl while trying to remove the plastic covering. Don’t worry…I have learned my lesson and I will be much more patient in the future!
I am super excited about these three customized Disney t-shirts I was able to make for my kids to wear at Disney. They’re excited about wearing them, too!
I had a ton of fun (even with my one mishap) working with the Heat Transfer Vinyl and designing these shirts. I have all kinds of ideas for more shirts swirling around in my head.

Those are very cute! I’m just getting into cutting fabric and ironing on with my Cricut. And I’ve been making all kinds of stuff with the peel and stick vinyl.

I’m glad you persevered with the HTV because the three finished Tees are all lovely. I, too, have found it takes WAY longer to get the vinyl to adhere to the fabric than the directions state – – and the flocked seems to take a little less than the smooth. But all three really look eye-catching! And your kids are so precious!
Thanks for participating in this month’s Silhouette Challenge Group Post! Whoo hoo!
Warmly,
