It’s Saturday night.
The kids are in bed.
We’re waiting on them to actually fall asleep.
Because ChaplainAndrews and I have a date planned.
A date night at home with dinner and a movie.
Earlier tonight as EA, MC, and Will were eating their dinner, MC asked me why her daddy and I weren’t eating too. I explained to her that we have a date after they go to bed. She looked at me and said, “But Mommy!!! We will be by ourselves!”
I told her that Mommy and Daddy had a special date right at home. They wouldn’t be by themselves and their babysitter wasn’t coming, but it was important for them go to right to sleep so Mommy and Daddy could have time together.
It’s important as married couples to spend alone time together. So much of our time is taken up with taking care of or children and meeting their needs. But we should never lose focus on one another.
Now, it is not always feasible to get a babysitter and head out for a night on the town for date nights.
But with a little creativity you can still enjoy time with your special someone.
My husband and I enjoy date nights at home. We usually watch a movie and have a special dinner or just a snack together.
The computers are turned off, the house is quiet, and we are able…
…to reunite with one another.
…to forget about the cares of the day.
…to put aside struggles and stresses.
Do you have regular date nights?
What do you do to creatively spend time with your husband?

We just had a date night at home last night! Ours sounds exactly the same as yours. We feed the kids at the usual time and put them to bed. Then we eat a special snacky kind of dinner and watch a movie or some of our favorite TV shows that we’re behind on. It’s a lot of fun, and it works really well when there is no option for a babysitter! Have fun!

I love that. We have a commitment to have a date night one night a week when my husband is home. In one of the many boxes of books he’s bought this year I found two little “365 date ideas” and then volume 2. It’s been fun to look through them and plan ahead.

Love this idea. We usually get on the computers after kiddos are in bed. We will watch some shows together then snuggle on the couch for a teeny bit, but nothing like a date. I really like that idea. Thanks for sharing.

I agree that date nights are essential. Willie and I really need to get better at doing them. We used to, but they’ve been tossed by the wayside lately. Time to change that! 🙂

I love in home date nights. We often grill steaks, or order chinese or pizza. Sometimes we watch the Steelers (when they have a night game) sometimes we watch a movie, others we just sit and talk. I cherish the times though.

We used to have date night every Friday night. Now we have 3 teenagers who stay up late and 2 little ones. We have to be even more creative. Still working on it…
