Day one of my December Daily album is focused on our new advent calendar. We’re using the Lego Star Wars advent calendar for the first time! My son is especially excited about this Christmas activity.
With my husband away serving overseas, I really try to focus on fun activities for my son. He’s the only boy in a house of three very girly sisters.
Several months ago while walking the aisles of Target, I spotted the Star Wars advent calendars out and picked this one up for him. We’re all sharing it, taking turns opening the day’s Lego creation, though. I know some people buy separate calendars for each child, but I just don’t have the budget for that. Will got to start it all off by opening the first day.
It did cause a bit is angst as I wasn’t sure how it was supposed to work. I opened the box and took out the tray of lego sets and then realized that I wasn’t supposed to do that (oops!). So I put the tray back into the box, BUT I put it in backwards and when he opened the first prize, it was the wrong one. Oops again! We taped that set back and opened the package back up to put the tray in correctly and then we were all set to go! Ha! It really should not have been that complicated.
On the left side of today’s spread, I printed out a photo of my son holding the advent calendar. I love the look of photos with a white border around them. I think it gives the eye a place to rest, so I used an action in Photoshop after resizing the photo to 4×6 and before printing.
On the right side I have a journaling card and a 3×4 photo.
This journaling card with the gold triangle is in the Paislee Press mini-kit that I’m using. I added to that a black and white (or clear) plaid vellum triangle. In between the two triangles I placed the day 1 tabbed “door” from the advent calendar. I also added some star sequins to the journaling card along with handwritten journaling (again, I’m really trying to embrace that).
For the 3×4 photo, I used a close up of Will pulling today’s Lego set from the calendar.
If you’re playing along and doing your own December Daily album, please let me know…I would love to see your projects! I’d also love to hear about your advent calendars if you have one that you’re using this year!
Thanks so much for joining me today!
