For this week’s Five on Friday post I thought I would share five things we’re checking off of our family bucket list in preparation for Keith leaving. We’re being very intentional about how we spend our time. We’ve planned activities that we enjoy as a family and some one-on-one activities for each of the kids to enjoy with Keith. Keith and I are also being intentional about our time together as a couple.
Today I’m going to share with you five activities we did this week that we wanted to do before Keith leaves for Korea.
{1} Omaha Zoo
I already shared this picture on Wednesday, but going to the Omaha Zoo was a big event we planned to do during our time with Keith this week. The drive from where we live to Omaha is a little over two hours, but it is so worth it! We had a fantastic day at the zoo. The kids had a blast seeing all of their favorite animals. We saw some new exhibits that we didn’t get to on our last visit to this zoo and still haven’t covered everything that is there.
We’re actually planning to go back to the Omaha Zoo when Keith comes home to visit.
{2} Purchase New Bicycles
Both of my older girls learned to ride bicycles without training wheels this spring on our neighbor’s bike. Yesterday we took the girls out to buy their own bikes. They spent the afternoon riding them and had a great time!
{3} Plant Flowers
Keith and the girls planted flowers in the flower bed in our front yard yesterday afternoon as well. This is something they did together after we arrived at Fort Leavenworth last summer and they wanted to do it again this year. One of the girls’ chores while Keith is gone will be to water the flowers everyday.
{4} Visit the Fire Station
My little Jenny is adamant about being a fire fighter when she grows up. This afternoon Keith took her to visit the fire station on post. She was able to talk to the fire fighters there and tour the fire trucks. They gave her a fire helmet, a badge, and some activity books that she has been very busy with. This was a great father-daughter activity. Jenny was all smiles!!
{5} Kansas City River Market
This photo was actually taken in the spring when Keith and I spent a weekend alone together, but we are planning to visit one of our favorite spots in Kansas City again tomorrow with the kids. The Kansas City River Market is a huge farmer’s market in downtown Kansas City. We’re planning to park at Union Station and take the new street car in to visit the River Market. We’ll walk around, shop and eat at one of our favorite restaurants. I can’t wait!!!
One advantage to Keith leaving for Korea is that we have been forced to be very intentional about the time we spend together as a family. We’re doing all of our favorite things and cherishing each moment!
