For you are not a God who delights in wickedness;
evil may not dwell with you.
The boastful shall not stand before your eyes;
you hate all evildoers.
You destroy those who speak lies;
the LORD abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.
Psalm 5:4-7
But let all who take refuge in you rejoice:
let them ever sing for joy,
and spread your protection over them,
that those who love your name may exult in you.
For you bless the righteous, O LORS;
you cover him with favor as with a shield.
Psalm 5:11-12
As I read through Psalm 5 this morning, I couldn’t help but turn my thoughts towards the events of this week.
I have been saddened by the attack on innocent people in the city of Boston.
My heart hurts to see such evil.
These two passages offer comfort to my spirit as the authorities are seeking those who planned this attack.
No, God does not delight in wickedness.
The evil that exists in the heart of men such as these is not from God.
The Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.
Just as God’s heart grieved over the evil that was rampant in the world that He created in the days of Noah (Genesis 6), His heart grieves over the evil that exists within every man who plots murder and destruction.
These will be brought to justice. Yes, possibly through the system of justice that is within our country, but definitely through the justice that comes from God who does not tolerate evil.
At the same time I know that I can take refuge in God in days of trouble.
I can sing for joy always because He is my God, my protection.
He blesses my life with His favor.
He provides comfort and peace in uncertain days and moments while living in this world.
