It has been one busy weekend around here!!!
I have lots of updates to share from just this weekend…we went to a new park, visited the Hatch Chili Festival, and celebrated my birthday. Whew!!! This should keep me busy blogging for the next week.
Knowing that we’re only going to be in El Paso for another year, we decided this summer that we really want to be intentional about getting out and enjoying life here! We’ve researched some fun things to do as a family for the fall and the Hatch Chili Festival was one of those “fun things” that were on our list.
The town of Hatch, New Mexico is known for their “world famous” Hatch Chilies. They have both red and green varieties and they are delicious!
We thought this was going to be just a small town festival, but it was so much bigger than we thought it was going to be! It actually took us about an hour and a half do get to the festival after exiting the interstate…something that should have just taken a few minutes without traffic.
Thankfully, it was a drive we enjoyed with lots to see in downtown Hatch.
Once we arrived we were all starving and beyond ready for some lunch.
They had so much to choose from! We ended up getting cheese and chili quesadillas and ate them while we got our bearings.
After lunch we enjoyed walking around the fairgrounds and looking at all the vendors and displays.
One of the highlights of our day was the girls participating in a watermelon eating contest.
Of course, Will was having NONE of that.
Despite their valiant efforts, the girls did not place in the watermelon eating contest. But we did come home with participant ribbons.
I believe Keith’s highlight was the Old Fashioned Soda he got in a stainless steel mug.
We also enjoyed watching the band play. The girls even got up and danced a little jig.
What a fun day!
This is exactly how I want to spend our last year in El Paso…truly enjoying and experiencing the culture.
