My husband is training for a marathon this Sunday.
He has done other races, 5K…10K and half-marathons.
The El Paso Marathon which he will run in on Sunday is his first marathon.
He has trained for this race like no other!
He has been incredibly focused on his goal of finishing this race.
I’m excited to cheer him on along the way and at the finish line.
More than anything else this race will take endurance.
Much like the race we are running in our Christian walk of faith.
We are surrounded by a “great cloud of witnesses” that want us to do well and succeed.
In order to do that, though, we must be focused.
We must lay aside every weight and sin which clings to us so closely.
Not some of the weights and sins…no, we must lay aside every single one of them.
That’s what you do when you’re focused on a goal…you do whatever it takes and get rid of all of the junk that will hold you back.
We must run this race that is set before us with focused endurance in order to cross the finish line.
And, oh! How I want to cross this finish line!!
Therefore, since we are surrounded so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance, the race that is set before us.
