Blogging has evolved into something totally different for me since I started this journey. I am noticing that it’s that way with many bloggers.
I have always enjoyed writing and journaling, but have never been especially consistent with either one. I have started many journals/diaries throughout my almost thirty-one years. Each time I would start with the goal of being consistent but when I missed a day or two, those days always seemed to turn into weeks or months or whatever until the journal was forgotten.
My husband is an incredible writer and journal keeper. My husband has all of his journals, dating all the way back to seventh grade…HOW AMAZING IS THAT!!!! I started a very simple blog several years ago (maybe it was just three…does that count as several?) as a way to journal. Like others before, it didn’t last.
Last year, actually it was December of 2006, we found out that the Army was PCSing us to Germany. I had the most adorable two year old twin girls and was expecting a baby in May. I knew that I wanted family to be able to keep in touch with us. Blogging seemed like a great way to make that happen. So, I started another blog. But there was no real purpose. I blogged for just a few weeks and it was forgotten amist our business of preparing for a new baby and a move overseas.
I began considering blogging again after noticing a comment someone left on my blog during the summer as I was in the middle of our move. Last fall, out of curiosity, I pulled up the abandoned blog and saw that during my absence, I had visitors and commenters. I was amazed and a blog was rediscovered.
I basically started over, but this time I had a purpose in my blogging. This helped me to be much more consistent. The scripture reference that immediately spoke to me about the purpose of this blog was Philippians 4:8.
Finally, brethren, whatever is TRUE, whatever is HONORABLE, whatever is RIGHT, whatever is PURE, whatever is LOVELY, whatever is of GOOD REPUTE, if there is any EXCELLENCE, and if anything WORTHY OF PRAISE, DWELL ON THESE THINGS.
One of my favorite blogs, Becoming Me, is hosting a Blogging Mission Tour this week. It is basically a carnival in which bloggers write about the mission statement of their blogs. I have been thinking about this ever since the carnival was announced. I think I have finally been able to write out a statement that encompasses my purpose in writing that and that motivates me to continue writing.
The Mission of Daily Dwelling is
to DWELL on what is
TRUE,
HONORABLE,
RIGHT,
PURE,
LOVELY,
OF GOOD REPUTE,
EXCELLENT,
AND WORTHY OF PRAISE
as I honestly and consistently share my life experiences as a
Child of God,
Wife of an Army Chaplain, and
Stay at Home Mother of Three.
What about you? Why do you write or blog? Are you able to do it consistently? Does having a purpose help you to be more consistent? I would love to hear (read) your own history and mission.
And if you’re so inclined, visit and participate in the Blog Mission Tour at Becoming Me. It lasts all week!

Really, really good stuff there!
This is totally unrelated…but you mentioned that your husband is a chaplain. Two weeks ago we went to our national conference, and they had some of the military chaplains there. Later we attended a workshop with them and they shared about ministering in times of crisis. (My husband is a pastor is a tinytown where we’ve had a EF5 tornado and bad flooding this year) Anyways, the chaplain ministry is absolutely amazing, and I have been so burdened to be praying for all those involved…and then I came across your blog 🙂 and now I have a face to put with it 🙂
Blessings to you and your family, and I look forward to stopping back in!

Stopping by on the Blog Mission Tour – your statement is great. Our daughter is in the Army, in Iraq right now in fact, and a Marine chaplain lead our son in law to the Lord so they have a speciall place in my heart and prayers. I will be back to read more!

Thanks for sharing this. My blogging has evolved a lot too and it seems to be continually “reducing” to the treasures of grace God would have me pass on to others.
I’ll look forward to visiting your blog again.
