I received the book, If Only I Could Tell You, by Hannah Beckerman in my last Book of the Month box. I started it on Saturday after finishing This Tender Land and finished it early this morning (Tuesday). It has been a while since I’ve finished a book so quickly, but this was one that I had a hard time putting down once I started it.
Short & Sweet Summary
If I Could Only Tell You is the story of a mother and her two daughters who have been estranged from one another for three decades. It is a secret and misunderstandings around the two deaths in the family that has left this family splintered beyond repair. It is Audry’s last wish that her two daughters reconcile and make peace with one another.
What I Loved
I love a story that centers around family dynamics. I love that this book hooked me in from the very beginning. I also love that I cared about all of the characters. I didn’t necessarily love all of the characters, but I cared about them and wanted them to find peace with one another.
The story here is very raw and emotional. It was heart-warming and heart-breaking all at the same time.
Trigger Warning
This book contains some pretty sensitive subjects that it would be helpful to be aware of in the beginning. Some of these topics include miscarriages, serious illnesses, and suicide.
Themes
This book tackles hard themes such as loss, grief, honesty, forgiveness and unconditional love.
Quote I Love
Once upon a time, Audrey had believed that her life was set on a clear path and that any diversion led to a complete derailment. Only now did she realize that those moments of change were not an ending but a beginning: a chance for a different kind of life, a different kind of journey, a different form of happiness. -p. 348
