Somehow over the past year, my entire family has become NASCAR fans.
It’s something that my husband has always enjoyed and upon returning to the states he decided that he wanted to catch up on.
Almost every Sunday afternoon or evening has found us watching the race and cheering on our favorite drivers.
Everyone picked their own favorites.
Keith’s long time favorite is Jeff Gordon.
I became a fan of Denny Hamlin after he stuck it out in the race car after a knee surgery.
EA likes Jamie McMurray.
Will picked Kurt Bush as a favorite because he drives the M&M car.
And MC became a loyal fan of Jimmy Johnson after she witnessed him do a burn out in victory lane during the first race she watched.
Keith and I went to our first race in April, but unfortunately it was rained out.
This year’s race season ended a couple of weeks ago. My husband DVR’ed it and we planned to watch the race in it’s entirety after the kids went to bed.
MC came downstairs that afternoon and said she wanted to watch Jimmy Johnson race.
She was disappointed when we told her that we weren’t watching it until after she was asleep.
Then we remembered the Race in 60 program that comes on Speed channel on Tuesday nights. They show the highlights and are able to condense the race down to an hour. We decided to DVR this for MC and show it to her on Wednesday.
So, I promised MC a race party with “special food” for Wednesday night and we told her she could watch the race then.
The day before Thanksgiving was party day as we made yet another family memory.
I made Jimmy Johnson cupcakes (a special request from MC), ordered pizza, and enjoyed watching the last race of the season with my three little fans.
MC was excited about having this special party and was even more thrilled to see that her driver won the championship!

My husband would love those! Hilarious! (He picked up NASCAR fanaticism when we lived in KC.)

I am so excited that you guys are able to be together making such wonderful family memories! Reminds me of our Steelers football parties with the kids!
