The story of the Good Samaritan has stuck with me all week. It was the topic of this past week’s Sunday School lesson.
I’m sure you know the story…
An expert in the law asked Jesus who he must do to inherit eternal life
Jesus responded by asking him how he reads the law.
He answers, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”
Jesus told him to do just that, but wanting to justify himself, he asked Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?”
Jesus then tells the parable of the good Samaritan.
A man was traveling and fell into the hands of robbers who stripped him, beat him and left him half dead on the side of the road.
A priest walks by and passes on the other side and so does a Levite.
But a Samaritan comes by and has compassion on the hurt man. He bandages his wounds, puts him on his animal and brings him to an inn to be cared for, offering to pay all expenses.
Jesus asks the expert in the law who of those three proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers.
He responded, “The one who showed mercy to him.” and Jesus tells him to go and do the same.
And so are all of us.
We are to stop and have compassion.
We are to be a neighbor to those in our world who many not…no who DO NOT deserve it.
We are to care for the wounded and the hurting.
We are to go above and beyond in our loving our neighbors as ourselves.
We are to go and show mercy just as this man did.
I created a printable of this verse that you can download by clicking here or on the image above.
I am challenged to go and do the same…
