Our family is no stranger to celebrating Thanksgiving the way many of you are celebrating for the first time this year.
Being a military family has meant that we’ve had to celebrate many holidays away from our extended family. We have been blessed with being able to gather with close friends for Thanksgiving several times. We’ve also traveled to spend Thanksgiving with family a couple of years when we lived within driving distance, but most years has been our little family of six enjoying the holiday together.
We are still able to make our holiday celebrations special and we’ve been able to establish our own traditions around holidays that we cherish.
My kids are looking forward to our Thanksgiving meal coming up in a couple of days just as much this year as they always do, and we’ve spent everyday of the last eight months eating together.
Over the years, I’ve settled on and perfected a regular Thanksgiving menu for our family. I’ve added to this basic menu from as I found new recipes to try and I have a menu that we all love and look forward to.
I thought it would be fun to share this menu with links here today in case you’re looking for something to add to your own Thanksgiving menu. I’m also sharing it here so that I have it saved for future reference.
Here’s our perfected Thanksgiving Menu that I just know you’re going to love!
Roasted Turkey – The turkey is always the star of the show around here! I’ve always had great success roasting turkey and I don’t do anything wild or crazy with it. Every year it comes out nice and crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. My not-so-secret secret to success is roasting it in a roasting pan using the instructions included with the Butterball turkey.
Dinner Rolls (Sister Schuster’s)
Pecan Pie – I use the very basic recipe that’s always printed on the bottle of light corn syrup.
Pumpkin Pie – from the frozen section of the grocery store
I hope you all have a fantastic Thanksgiving this year! We have much to be thankful for even in this year that has been hard in many ways.
