Our weekend started with a field trip to the zoo with our homeschool co-op and ended with a super busy Sunday including lunch at a friend’s house.
We were all so excited to go on our first field trip with Legacy Christian Academy. It was actually scheduled for last Friday, but had to be rescheduled because of thunderstorms.
Will was brave and fed the goats. He is usually so scared to do this and misses out while his sisters feed the farm animals. He asked to feed them this time and I was so proud of him for being brave.
The penguin exhibit is always a treat for us, but it was especially so this time since I recently finished reading Mr. Popper’s Penguins with Will.
The five of us had such a fun day together walking around the zoo. I spend so much time being a teacher to my little ones, it’s nice to have a day to just relax and enjoy them and the learning experience. We were so tired by the end of the day, but it was a really good kind of tired.
Speaking of a really good kind of tired…I’ve been working out with a friend down the street and man, oh man am I tired. Every single morning we’re working out with Insanity videos and walking. It feels so good to be working out hard and pushing myself beyond anything I’ve pushed before. I’m so thankful for the accountability this has given me, too!
When we finished our workout on Saturday morning, I spotted Keith walking towards me with the camera. Normally, this is not a picture I would want to post…it’s not flattering all all. All I can see is my own flab. But, I am trying to be authentic and part of that is being honest with my struggles. One of those struggles is with my body image. I’m trying to embrace who God made me as while striving for a healthy (ier) lifestyle.
Knowing that I had a busy Sunday coming up the next day, I spent Saturday evening writing lesson plans for homeschool. I turned down going to a bonfire and hanging out with neighbors to work and at first I didn’t have the best attitude. Homeschool is a sacrifice, but it’s one that I believe in. Sometimes we have to look at life with a big-picture perspective and this was one of those times. Taking the time and making the sacrifice to stay in and write lessons plans paid off when we began our homeschool week this morning.
Yesterday we had lunch with friends after church. I cannot express how happy we are at our church in Kansas. It feels like home! Everyone has been incredibly welcoming and it has been such a blessing to us already in the few months we’ve been there. These friends have daughters who are the same age as my girls and they are in several activities together. They made cute placemats and name place cards for our kids at the table.
After lunch we ran errands at Target and took the kids back to church for AWANA. Keith and I went over to the mall for some shopping while they were in AWANA.
I was so exhausted after being away from home all day that I collapsed into bed as soon as we came in and missed seeing the moon. We spotted it on our way home, but didn’t see the entire eclipse.
I love full weekends like the one we just enjoyed!
