EA and MC have enjoyed attending Children’s Choir at our local church on Wednesday nights.
Their favorite song is “Trust and Obeyâ€. I hear several renditions of it throughout the day.
Another favorite, especially of MC, is “The Wise Man Built His House Upon the Rockâ€.
She’s a fun-lovin’ girl and this is a fun song to sing!
Here’s a video if you’re not familiar with it.
She rushed out of the homeschool room one night this week during story time excitedly holding up one of her books, “This is the House That Jack Builtâ€.
She proudly exclaimed, “Mommy! We sing about the wise man building his house on the rock and this must be the wise man….look!!!â€
She was absolutely beside herself as the pieced these two familiar items together.
The song and the book.
And now the wise man that she sings about in choir has a name….Jack, even though I’m not really sure how wise Jack really was in the building of his house.
Isn’t it funny how children draw connections to make sense in their world?

Thanks! The story and the song bring back memories… when I was little I went to a camp that had a bible time during the day and we’d read stories and sing songs… this was one of them… I taught it to my son when he was little… and then when I taught kindergarten in Sunday School… we sang this…. it’s a really sweet song…. It never occurred to me what the children were imagining or any connections thay may have made to other stories…. how funny!

That is really cute. I know my girl does those sorts of things a lot. Its a lot smaller a world where you are that age. She insists that there can only be One of any particular person’s name. As in her new friend can’t be Ethan, as Ethan is Liam’s baby brother.

I love it, Monica! I am always trying to get my 3rd graders to make connections. Good for MC for making a great one. I bet she will never forget the story we learn in this song because of her connection.
