I wrote a blog post for The Lilypad this week on getting the most out of your One Little Word this year that I would love for you to check out!
As I was putting that blog post together, I put this scrapbook page for my own One Little Word together. As I shared earlier, my word for this year is Simplify. I’ve been thinking about that word a lot and some of my “why’s” behind choosing that particular word.
Those three reasons are included in this layout.
- I like simple. I really do! I am not opposed to very plain and simple things from my home decor to life in general. Sometimes I have trouble accepting this about myself because the world generally doesn’t understand simple. There is a lot of pressure to do more, to be more and to clutter more. We want homes that are fully decorated and schedules that are filled to the brim. And all to often I don’t allow myself to be comfortable with the things that I like that may be viewed differently by others. I want to be more accepting of myself and part of that is embracing the things that I like. Embracing the fact that I like simple will be a big part of my journey this year.
- I want to worry less and live more. I’ve been thinking a lot in terms of simplicity and what I want less of and more of in my life this year. Basically I want to spend WAY less time worrying, especially about things that really don’t matter. And I want to spend more time living…truly living and enjoying this beautiful life I have been blessed with. Simplifying my time and my possessions will allow for less worry and more living.
- I believe there is beauty in simplicity. The opposite of simplicity is complications. Complications are ugly Complications stress me out…thinking about complications stresses me out. But simplicity allows me to breathe deep, full breaths and take in the beauty of life. I want to see and experience more beauty through simplicity this year!
I want to remember these three reasons behind my One Little Word as I go about my year. I want to remember them as I take actions to simplify my home, my schedule and my life.
One way that I’m going to remember them is to print out this layout in 8×8 size on my home printer and place it in my desk area so that I’ll see it often. Having a word of the year is great, but in order to get the most out of that guiding word, we have to know why we chose it and keep that at the forefront of our minds throughout the year. Otherwise, it’s just a fun January activity that doesn’t truly impact the year ahead.
If you chose a word for your year, I would love to hear your reasons behind it!

Love your word. I could do with less worry, and I’m on a constant journey to find simple beauty in my life. Thank you for sharing.

You and are so much alike. I can’t stand for my life to get too busy and over-stimulating. Adam and I have always kept our decorating to a minimum because #1 then kids don’t break anything and #2 it’s less for me to clean and #3 less for the movers to move…cause you know…military life. ; )
I love this!

Organization is my word for this year. I feel overwhelmed by the amount of “stuff” in my home. I have to admit that I am mostly responsible for this but am trying to get a handle on it now.
