I’m not sure how it is that I’m just writing about our Thanksgiving dinner after over an entire week has passed.
But, alas, that’s what I’m doing.
We invited my parents to join us for our Thanksgiving dinner this year.
After being away for the past three Thanksgivings, I knew that I wanted to host dinner in our home this year.
I think I spent two entire days in the kitchen cooking.
But all that hard work was definitely worth it in the end.
We had a wonderful time and the food was delicious, if I do say so myself!
The highlights of the actual dinner for me were making my own pie crust for my favorite pecan pie and having our huge turkey come out beautifully.
My friend Ann taught me how to make pie crust from scratch and I was so proud to do it all myself (with just a few peeks at the instructions on her blog)!! Making pie crust is really pretty easy…in fact, I’d consider it to be easier than buying pre-made refrigerated or frozen crust from the grocery store.
Yumm…this is my favorite pie!!
I bought the biggest turkey ever this year! They were on sale for cheaper than I could have gotten a smaller sized turkey, so I went with it. When EA saw me take our finished turkey out of the oven she exclaimed, “Boy that is one BIG turkey!” and it was!
I was so intimidated to roast my own turkey the first time, but after doing it for several years, I’ve become quite comfortable with it.
My secret to a beautifully, tender, and moist turkey is to keep it simple.
I don’t brine or rub or do any other fancy smancy stuff to our turkey.
No, I simply baste it with vegetable oil and follow the instructions that come printed on the package, usually simply roasting it for a few hours.
Easy, huh?
How was your Thanksgiving celebration?
