EA & MC are such social girls and I love to see them interact with other children their age and make new friends.
My prayer for the two of them has always been that they would be good friends with each other. And that prayer has been answered…they really are best friends. Yes, they have their tiffs as any two people that spend as much time together as they do would, but they truly enjoy being together.
Another prayer I’ve had for them is that they would also be able to make friends outside of themselves. Sometimes twins become so accustomed to playing with one another and having a constant companion in their twin sibling, that they don’t look outside themselves to form new friendships. This prayer has also been answered.
They actually made one of their first friends when they began going to the hourly day care here (CDC). They promptly named one of their dolls “Ashley” and I could not figure out where in the world this new name came from.
It finally dawned on me when I saw another mom taking her daughter to the CDC on the same day. As we were getting out of our van, the girls excitedly proclaimed, “Look, there’s Ashley!! Ashley’s here!”
When I got in, I asked if her daughter was named “Ashley” and it was. Ashley came up to me when I was picking the girls up from PWOC this week and said, “Mary Catherine is my friend, but she doesn’t talk to me.”
How sad is that???
Mary Catherine is a pretty quiet little girl, like her mommy. But even though she is quiet, she loves her friends. I know because she is JUST LIKE ME!
This morning EA announced for the first time that she has a “best friend”.
Since learning their alphabet, the girls love to ask me what letter various words begin with. They do this often throughout the day.
This morning as we were eating breakfast, EA asked, “What one is for Brenda?”
Because I hear the question phrased this way often, I replied, “B is for Brenda”.
I think she must have thought I said “E” because she replied, “E is for Brenda and elephant and Me (me being Elizabeth Anne)”.
So, I had to correct, “No, honey, I said B….B is for Brenda”.
And she says, “Oh, B is for Brenda because Brenda is my best friend.”
I was surprised by this revelation. I said, “She is? I thought MC was your best friend.”
And she adamently replied, “No, Brenda is. Brenda is my best friend.”
Now, I just have to figure out just who Brenda is.

You are such a great mom to your kids. It thrills me that you expect them to form personalities and friendships outside themselves.
