How I weep for you, my brother, Jonathan! Oh, how much I loved you! And your love for me was deep, deeper than the love of women.
2 Samuel 1:26
As I was reading in 2 Samuel this morning, the Lord drew my attention to this verse because of the rare friendship that was shared between David and Jonathan. Theirs was a friendship that penetrated far beyond the surface of most friendships. They truly loved one another deeply even though their positions in life should have produced hatred.
I pray that I will have the pleasure of experiencing such a deep friendship in this lifetime. But that will require vulnerability and a willingness to become transparent on my part.
I pray that as God places others in my life that I will humbly allow them to know me.

This is where my journal entry ended this morning. During the day I had several opportunities to follow through on this prayer. I am so thankful that God uses scriptures to speak to the needs of our hearts and to challenge and grow our faith.

I have always been fascinated by the friendship of David and Jonathan. It is definitely rare to find such deep kinship with someone, and something to be treasured indeed. It’s amazing how the Bible gives us such wonderful examples of all facets of human relationships, and how important they are in helping us grow in our faith and challenge ourselves. I am very thankful for you as a friend.

I too love how God’s word shows us our current needs and desires as well as how to fill those needs and desires. THe friendship of David and Jonathan is so beautiful.

I have a wonderful friend who I met about 14 years ago, our husbands were both Chaplain Assistants then, hers has gone on to being a tank commander then retiring from the Army. Mine is a Chaplain Candidate now. I recently got a phone call from them wondering if we had a bed for the night for them to sleep over, there was a death in the family.
It is so good to be able to offer solace in the form of a room or a bed or a listening ear.
They know they can count on us for any need, and we know we can count on them as well.
God has truly blessed our friendship through the years and I think of her whenever I read the story of David and Jonathon. (Besides the fact that those are the names of her boys, {smile})
