I know, I know, I said I would be sporadic this week, but I just love this place and I’m finding it hard to stay away more than a couple days. I did a little of just about everything today, from cleaning up vomit to visiting a new city, it was a day of complete FLEXIBILITY!
The day started out with MC and EA waking me up. I have been sleeping in more often now that I have discovered that the girls will play pretty quietly without disturbing me. And by sleeping in, I mean in to 7 am, which doesn’t REALLY count as sleeping in.
I love to get up early in order to be efficient during the day and it getting up to have my devotions and shower before the kids are up and about really helps my entire disposition, but sometimes I am just plain tired and can’t resist hitting the snooze button or turning the alarm clock off!
Anyway, both girls were standing by my bed at 6:30 this morning begging for breakfast. I was able to put them off until just before 7 when my parents knocked on the door. I felt terrible that I wasn’t up and dressed before they came over!!
My morning was way off kilter because I had to jump out of bed and meet the many demands that were, well, DEMANDING my attention. Things like getting breakfast on the table, changing diapers, clothes, washing faces, visiting, cleaning, and the list could go on and on and on and on…
Right after breakfast MC began complaining that her lip hurt and lay down on the couch. Wining can me MC’s biggest fault, so I was a really bad Mommy and basically ignored her lip complaint. I went over to check my e-mail and since Keith was online, too, we began chatting. MC came over and said, “Mommy, do you think you have some medicine you could put on my lip”. This sort of concerned me, so I started looking at her lip….I don’t know what I thought I would find. During the lip inspection, MC began throwing up…all over me, the floor and the corner of the computer table!
I was able to get her to the bathroom to clean her up and change her clothes without getting sick myself. I have a very weak stomach when it comes to anything gross, especially body fluids! Thank goodness my dad was here, because he felt sorry for me and helped to clean up the messes in the living room. After I finished up my chat with Keith, I decided it was past time for me to get showered myself.
I don’t know what was really wrong with MC because just a few minutes after being sick, she declared that her “lip” felt better and she wasn’t sick anymore. She ate, drank, and wasn’t sick anymore today!
Because my parents came in on the 4th, the place where they should have been issued a visitor’s pass was closed and they only received a 72 hour pass. It expired this morning, so we decided to head over to get that chore taken care of.
The plan was to get this done and go to eat at McDonald’s for lunch.
Because you just have to experience eating at McDonald’s when you’re in a foreign country. There’s nothing else like it.
I had trouble finding the correct place to do the visitor’s pass and drove around a bit. It is not my fault, it’s hidden in the basement of an obscure building.
After we got signed in there, the girl at the desk told me that their computers were broken but they should be working after lunch. As I was standing there, she kept checking to see if they would magically start working again…they didn’t so we changed our plans a bit.
FLEXIBILITY!
We decided to drive into the neighboring city of Idar Oberstein and go shopping at Globus (a German version of Wal-mart) and eat lunch.
It’s only about a thirty minute drive there…just enough time for a one year old and two three year olds to fall asleep in their car seats. All three of them were sound asleep, EA was even snoring and there was no way I was waking them up, when we pulled into the parking lot, so I changed plans yet again!
FLEXIBILITY!
I plugged the name of the next big town, Bad Kreuznach, and we continued driving. We saw the most beautiful fields on our way there. They were filled with grape vines. Apparently Bad Kreuznach is known for it’s grape wine.
As we were nearing the town, I was telling my parents about different observations from living in Germany. I was telling them about how Germans take very good care of their pets, even taking them shopping with them. It’s very common to see people walking around in nice department stores with their dogs on leashes. EA woke up during the middle of this conversation, and her first words upon waking up were, “Well, I take my dog shopping with me.”
We don’t have a dog!
We pulled into McDonald’s just after noon. Everyone was awake and ready to eat.
We didn’t have time to tour Bad Kreuznach because the visitor’s pass office was closing at 3:30 and we didn’t want to be late, so we traveled back home after lunch with just a short stop at Globus for sunglasses for EA and MC.
I was a bit disappointed that we didn’t get to spend more time enjoying the city. It looked very lovely. But when you’re on a tight schedule and traveling with THREE under THREE, you can only do so much!
We were able to get the visitor’s passes without too much trouble when we returned to Baumholder. One computer did break again while doing my dad’s fingerprints, but thankfully, they were equipped with one working computer this afternoon!
I think tomorrow will be a day of rest for us. The girls and Will were quite exhausted by our busy, spontaneous day.
