I have had a drawing lately to my journal that contains my list of everyday blessings.
I opened it up yesterday afternoon and noticed that my last entry was dated July 8. How sad it that!
While it feels sad to realize that it has been two months since I’m hit pause to sit and take note of the blessings that I’ve experienced, it also explains a lot. In those two months we’ve started the school year and new activities. We’ve been busy…sometimes too busy. And I have been stressed and overwhelmed many times in those two months. I’ve also battled a bit of depression and fought my way through it.
I wonder what would have been different if I would have taken moments of quiet and reflection to count my blessings over the last eight weeks instead of letting life overwhelm.
How I want to live differently!
I want to life a life of contentment and I cannot do that without first living a life of gratitude.
So, once again, I’m renewing my commitment to be intentional about pausing to mark my blessings down. To give each one a name and a number. To realize that even there are many on my list, there are many more that we’ve lived.
Why the effort? Why begin again? Why not just give up on this practice altogether?
Because gratitude and contentment are worth fighting for!
I believe that God is worthy of my praise.
I believe that every blessing I count comes from His goodness and grace to me.
I believe that if I don’t pause to notice the blessings I will miss out of seeing His hand working in my life.
Each night as I’m preparing for bed, I plan to pull out my “blessings all mine” journal to count and name the blessings of the day and thank God for them. I’ll share them each week with you because I also believe that sharing is a part of this journey.
Here are the blessings that I wrote down last night…
