This new year has been busy and somewhat overwhelming for me as we have moved across the country. My days have been filled with striving to get back into a new normal and routine. Just when I think I’ve got it…I realize I don’t.
We have experienced numerous blessings throughout our move and as we have settled into a new home. I had all intentions of sharing those blessings with you and documenting them here as they have happened. I even purchased a new, pretty notebook just for recording my blessings this year.
But, in the busyness of life, I have not been recording or counting my blessings this year. And my spirit has suffered for not recording and counting.
This morning, as I had some quite time with God and read Romans 1:21, I was convicted of my need to get back into this habit of honoring God and giving thanks to Him through counting my blessings.
For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
~Romans 1:21
Honoring God and giving thanks to Him—acknowledging Him above all else is vital in our life as believers. The failure to honor and thank God leads to futile thinking.
As I look around at prevalent thoughts and mindsets of the world, it is easy to see this failure to honor God as God and the failure to give thanks to Him for the abundant blessings we receive, as the origin of all of these futile thoughts.
Foolish hearts eventually become darkened by sin and hardened to the things of God.
I pray that I would live my life in an acknowledgement of God—honoring him as God…as Savior, Creator, Redeemer, and Lord…and giving thanks to him in all things.
So, here I am today, counting once again.
I’m starting right where I left off as our lives got crazy with the move in December.
