One of my goals for my first-grader in homeschool this year was to slowly move him towards more independence.
He is a good worker…when he is being watched and I am sitting right in front of him.
With three other children that I am teaching, I cannot always watch him or sit right in front of him just so he can do his work with diligence.
I am excited to report that we are making some progress!!
One afternoon last week, I directed him to complete the second side of his math sheet. (they complete one side after our lesson in the morning, and are then assigned the second side to complete in the afternoon)
Will told me that he wanted to do it on his own.
YES, he wanted to do it all on his own!
So, I moseyed into another room and left him to it.
When he brought me his work to be checked, I told him I would be so proud if him if he did a good job on it working completely on his own.
Well, not only was I proud of my little boy who is growing up more and more each day, but he was proud of himself and his sister was so proud of him that she ran into the room to give him a great big hug!
Will finished off our celebration by dancing a little jig!
Some...okay, strike that...many homeschool days are hard.
It takes work and some intentional searching to find progress being made.
And then other days, like this one, are so very rewarding.
There’s no searching to find progress…it’s dancing a jig right in front of you.
Those are the days that keep me going!
What are you celebrating in your homeschool this week?
