The evening hours just before Daddy comes home from work seem to be the craziest in our home.
The kids are all done with school and playing wildly.
They’re dancing around and singing and talking to me while I’m trying to get the house in order and dinner on the table.
We’re all ready for Daddy to walk in the door and bring a freshness to our day.
I knew we reached an all time high in our craziness when I looked over and Jenny was standing on her head calling out for Daddy…repeatedly.
This was just fifteen minutes before his truck pulled into our driveway.
And to be honest with you, I was ready to stand on my own head and call out to Daddy myself!
Do you deal with the evening craziness in your home?
Please tell me we’re not alone…

LOL! You are definitely not alone. Why is it that the time of day that we most want our homes to be peaceful, clean and welcoming to Daddy are the craziest and messiest?

My favorite remedy (since Emily was itty-bitty and colicky) has been music. Whether it’s the radio, iTunes, or the music channel on tv. Dancing around the house while ‘waiting’ always makes the time go by faster!

They may be the craziest–but probably the most meaningful! Where else do you go where there is a household of “fans”?

I love this! Yes, my house turns into a zoo at night. With my 11yo daughter and 8yo son running around the house, chasing each other. And then about 10 mins. before bed, they decide to wrestle, and get daddy involved. I mean really! What do I have to do to get some peace and quiet? Ha ha!

Thankfully my boys are a little older, and I can just say go read or get on your PC’s or whatever I can do to remove them from the area if it’s gotten beyond crazy, and they are actually a distraction in the kitchen.
I used to set them up at the table with a ‘job’ to do to help me with supper. Sometimes it was tearing up pieces of bread for ‘crumbs’ or using a plastic knife to cut up cooked carrots or using playdough for food prep…whatever I could do to involve them in the ‘cooking’ and yet be able to still cook myself. Sometimes it was just all about the stirring 🙂 that worked wonders!
There were days, when the oldest was a toddler, that we would just stand in front of the door, waiting for Dad to drive up, singing the Daddy-man song we’d made up. I remember those crazy days fondly now 🙂
