Hi friends!!
I hope you’ve had a great week! Our first week of school ends today and we have plans to go celebrate with frozen yogurt (my favorite way to celebrate anything).
I’m excited to share with you some of what I’ve been loving and doing this week.
Listening
I am currently listening to The Last Girl by Nadia Murad. I became interested in her story after the Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom during which she shared her story. The Last Girl is Nadia’s story of captivity and her fight against the Islamic State.
Listening to this is hard and heartbreaking. But I strongly believe that it is important for us to listen to and read hard stories that give voice to victims of persecution like Nadia.
I’m also loving the podcast One Great Book by Anne Bogel. Each week Anne shares about one great book in just a few minutes. I love Anne’s recommendations and I’ve added many of these to my to-read list.
Watching
Keith and I love watching movies and it’s so easy with AMC A-list. We have a movie date planned for the next several weeks.
Last Sunday afternoon we went to see The Farewell at a nearby theater that we love. It was so good…we walked away with much processing to do.
Last night we took Jenny to see Dora and the Lost City of Gold and I’m pretty sure Keith and I laughed more than Jenny did. We loved it!!
Reading
I finished How Not to Die Alone earlier this week. I added it on to one of my Book of the Month boxes earlier this summer, but I put off reading it because I wasn’t sure how I would like it. I went into it with very low expectations and I’m happy to report that I ended up liking this book much more than I thought I would. I am a sucker for a quirky, socially awkward protagonist and this one had that.
I started reading The Reckless Oath We Made by Bryn Greenwood a few days ago. It was my selection for Book of the Month this month.
Eating
Keith and I stopped into IceNY Alexandria after our movie on Sunday afternoon for some rolled ice cream. It was probably the BEST ice cream I’ve ever had!! Keith had the Biscoff Cookie flavor and I opted for Banana Pudding. Just thinking of it now has my mouth watering!
Praying
I hate to end on a sad note, but I am praying for our beloved city of El Paso that was the center of national attention this week after a terrorist attack. My heart grieves for the families that lost loved ones. And I hurt for those that are still recovering from their injuries.
This is a city that my family has called home. This is the city that feels most like home to all of us. We have lived in El Paso longer than any other location during our almost twenty years of marriage. El Paso is more than just a place that we have lived, it is a community that we invested in with friends that we love and care deeply for.
In our world of constant news, it is easy to move on to the next story after a tragedy hits. I ask that you continue to keep this precious city, along with Dayton, Ohio, in your prayers. It will take more than a few days to grieve and heal.
