This is my favorite kind of Friday morning. We’ve been moving slow and just enjoying life around here this morning. My husband has a four day weekend, so he’s home. We’ve had breakfast together and sat around listening to the radio and watching our children play. I love slow mornings like this and how they truly help me to savor and appreciate the beauty of life.
I just finished reading All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr late last night. Wow! I’m still processing all that is in this book, but I enjoyed it so much. It took me about three weeks to get through the introduction because I was reading it during a very busy time and kept falling asleep one sentence in. Once I got through the introduction and started reading the book, it was hard to put it down. This is a historical fiction book set in France during World War II…my favorite time period to read in historical fiction. It left me with lots to think about.
What’s the latest book you read?
I’m a bit embarrassed to admit that our Christmas tree is still up. I think this is the longest that we’ve kept it up. My husband just informed me that that’s incorrect. One year we left it up until February…yikes! Putting away the tree is today’s project along with cleaning the garage.
When did you put your Christmas tree away?
We received our Amazon Echo this week and it has been so much fun to play with! What a fun age we live in where we can speak to our devices and they do what we tell them to do! On Wednesday evening, I overheard the kids telling their friend that we have a radio that “talks to us”. We’re getting closer and closer to The Jetsons everyday.
Do you ever think about all the inventions and advancements that have been made in our lifetime and wonder what life will be like when our children are our age?
We have a big basket of Duplo Legos in our living room. The kids spent a good portion of the morning playing with these in front of the fire. They have moved on to regular Legos and building Lego sets, but these are so nice to have out in the living room. They play with them quite often, especially when they are between activities. I think we’ll probably always have these out.
Do you have a toy that your kids love keep coming back to?
My biggest accomplishment of the homeschool week has been having a reading lesson with Jenny every day! She enjoys them so, but too often I neglect my time with her for focusing on her brother and sisters. My goal this year has been to really focus on having reading lessons with her. She’s really picking up on her letter sounds and is ready to begin reading. I took this picture right before we began yesterday morning.
What accomplishment are you celebrating today?
