Hello friends and happy Friday!!
I pray that you are all healthy and doing well in spite of our current circumstances. I’m looking forward to sharing a little Five on Friday update with you today.
//one// Butcher Box
I’m utilizing several tools to make shopping for the task of feeding my family easier while observing social distancing. One tool that I’m really excited about is Butcher Box.
Butcher Box is a meat delivery subscription. I subscribed to receive a monthly meat delivery of a variety of meats to feed my family. These meats are free of antibiotics added hormones. They are also humanely raised. It’s high-quality meat I feel good about feeding my family.
I received our first box last week and I’m so excited to have a freezer full of quality meat! Right now, with grocery stores in our area limiting the meats they are selling, it has given me an extra little bit of peace.
Right now, there is a waiting list to join, but I would advise putting your name on that list and giving it a try!
//two// Currently Reading
I’ve finished two books over the past week and I’m gearing up to begin my next read this afternoon.
I finished reading The Splendid and the Vile by Erik Larson last weekend. This was a monster of a book, coming it at just over 500 pages!! And it was outside of my normal genre, being a narrative history book, but I really enjoyed it. I stopped several times, especially nearing the end of the book, to read passages to my husband. That’s always a good sign that I’m loving a book!
The Splendid and the Vile is chronicles Churchill’s first year as prime minister of Britain during the blitz. It is interesting to get that perspective during our own historical crisis.
Yesterday, I finished reading The Two Lives of Lydia Bird by Josie Silver. I thought it was going to be a lighter read after making my way though The Splendid and the Vile. Ha!!! While it was definitely lighter and an easier read, it was a little emotionally draining.
In it Lydia is grieving the loss of her fiancee, Freddie, after he is killed in a car accident on her twenty-eighth birthday. Something happens that provides a way for her to have another chance at living her life with Freddie. In the end she has to make a decision about which life she will choose.
Thankfully, this book ended on a very hopeful note and I loved seeing Lydia grow through the process of grieving.
I am planning to begin The Glass Hotel by Emily St. John Mandel this afternoon.
//three// Formal Friday
My family decided to change things up on Fridays while we’re under “stay at home” orders. Since each day is looking so much the same, we’re celebrating Formal Friday by dressing up like we’re going out. We were all excited to dress up in our best clothes today! Tonight I’m preparing a special Friday Night Dinner with a sweet dessert and we’ll change into comfy pajamas before ending the day with a movie together.
//four// Homeschool
I have been so thankful for our homeschool routine these last few weeks! We have been able to just continue on without interrupting our lives too much. In fact, Will and Jenny have both finished math for their current grade and are moving on to the next grade level in that subject. I love having the flexibility to do that!!
//five// Documenting COVID 19
I wanted to share some resources that you can use in documenting COVID 19. Several scrapbook designers have shared free resources and I am happy to pass them along to you!
It is so important to me to document this historical time that is effecting the entire world.

You have such creative ideas! I enjoy reading your blogs, it has become inspirational to me. You are like the mom every child dreams of having, and you set the image of what a “perfect” wife would be like! I always look forward to your blogs. It teaches me how to be a better mom & wife (as if you haven’t taught me enough lol). ???
