We have started doing freewriting on Fridays in our homeschool. Last week was our first week and my girls enjoyed it so much that they’ve been looking forward to freewriting today all week long.
EA told me before we did today’s freewriting that “There’s two good things about today…1) We’re having a Good Luck Charlie party tonight (yes, we are). and 2) She gets to do freewriting!”
How’s that for a pretty awesome way to end a week of homeschool?
I am following the Friday Freewriting schedule over at the Brave Writer blog. I’m also writing along with my girls. I set my timer and we all write for ten minutes, then we read what we wrote to one another. It’s a great time of sharing and developing a love of writing. MC actually cried as I read my writing today.
I decided that I will share my freewriting with you on Fridays each week. I’m going to share it a week behind. So, today I’m sharing last week’s freewriting. This will allow me to schedule this post.
I will also share my girls’ writing on a week by week basis as they give permission. I’m leaving it up to them each week whether they would like their writing published or kept private.
Last week’s topic was First Memory and here is what we wrote:

I have many first memories that fill my thoughts of my childhood. I remember playing with a slew of cousins at my Granny’s house. My Daddy was the youngest of thirteen children, so my sister and I grew up with lots of cousins. We would all gather under the pecan tree at my Granny’s house and play games such as freeze tag, Simon Says, and Mother May I for hours on end.
I also remember visiting with my Granny. I was convinced that I was one of her favorite grandchildren. She would cut apples down the middle and scoop out the pulp with a spoon just for me!
I remember so much time spent visiting my Grandmama and Grandaddy on my mother’s side as well. My sister and I were their first grandchildren and they spoiled us rotten! We would play in my Grandaddy’s hair on Sunday afternoons as he lay on the couch for a nap, tying small bundles of gray hair with colorful bread ties. Before we left with our mama to go back home, he actually paid us a dollar for styling his hair and we felt so proud of ourselves.
I am so thankful for these memories of family, of cousins and grandparent who lavished me with love and care.

When I was a little girl I loved my passy. One day I lost my passy. We looked everywhere for it. I started to cry. Mommy told me that if I stopped crying she’d get me a special doll. I stopped crying, Mommy got me a baby doll. I named her Marco. I hugged and kissed her so much that her hair sticks up.

When Daddy came home from Iraq I cried and he said that he was in the back.
In Baumholder we had quiet time on our beds and we had little big boxes to hold stuff like toys.
