Party food…
I didn’t get a picture of our spider cake, but it turned out really well!!
Will as Super Why…
MC as Strawberry Shortcake…
EA as Abby Cadabby…
and Little Miss Jenny as a Ladybug…
(she’s always on the move!)
All four of my blessings…
Heading out the door…
Yes, it rained, but we didn’t let that ruin our night!
Will decided soon after walking out the door and seeing the rain and some scary costumes to stay at home with Keith and Jenny. They did some indoor trick or treating.
The girls and I went to approximately two houses and decided it was time to call it a night! We came in soaking wet!!
I put Jenny to bed and the big kids had hot chocolate with a couple of pieces of candy while they watched some of the Good Night show on Sprout.
Even with the rain, we heard no complaints from EA, MC, and Will.
It was a fun night because we were intentional about making it special.

We did Trunk or Treat Sunday night at our preschool church so we had planned to stay in last night. We carved our first ever jack o lantern and then my 4 year old helped give out candy. She was upset though with the rain we only had 3 groups come to the door. The 16 month old was happy as usual, just a regular night for her! She got to dress up earlier in the day at Kindermusik class.

We have for years just stayed home and given out candy. Last year we ventured out to 3 houses– all neighbors we know personally. This year we went to 6 houses– the 3 neighbors we know, and three more we didn’t know. We branched out a bit. 🙂
We get a pretty steady flow of trick-or-treaters in our neighborhood, so my kids have grown to LOVE handing out candy– I need to clean the storm door from where their faces were pressed up against the glass watching for the next person walking up the street. 🙂 We always wear dress-up clothes we currently own for halloween, and then I buy new costumes on sale afterwards. 🙂 Nathan was a starwars clonetrooper, and Rachel was a cowgirl.
Thank you for sharing your perspective on halloween— I needed that. It’s so hard to decide how to approach this “holiday”— esp. since my kids are in public school, and avoiding it is not an option. I will talk more about all saints day next year, and less about how evil halloween is.
Love you, friend!
