During my freshman year in college there was a popular rap song containing the line, “I Wish I was a Little Bit Taller”.
There have been many times in my when life this phrase has been so true.
Times like…
…when I worked at Piggly Wiggly during high school and could barely reach the scale to weigh bananas
…when I’ve gone hiking or walking with my husband (it takes about three of my short steps to match one of his tall ones)
…when I taught middle school and most of my students were taller than me
…when I have to stand on a chair to stand on the window sill to hang pictures
But it has never been as true as it is today.
One oddity about being an American living in Eurpoe is the voltage difference. Europe, Germany included, uses a 220 volt system and American electronics run off 110 volts of electricity.
Thankfully, because we live on post, we do have access to both in our apartment.
Shortly after we arrived and got settled one of my first purchases was a “German” hairdryer because the spot where I dry my hair in the bedroom is only equipped with the Eurpoean outlets.
Recently, the diffuser attachment on this dryer broke and I have been forced to use my American hairdryer in the bathroom and that’s where I ran into a problem.
I don’t know if Germans are typically taller or not, but the bathroom sink and mirror is designed for someone much taller than I.
Standing in front of the bathroom mirror, I can ALMOST see my entire forehead.
That’s not the best situation for hair drying, is it?
So, every morning as I pull out my American hairdryer and stand on a step stool to style the locks on top of my head, I sing the chorus of the rap song that was popular during my freshman year in College…
I wish I was a little bit taller
I wish I was a baller
I wish I had a girl who looked good
I would call her
I wish I had a rabbit in a hat with a bat
and a six-four impala
I’ve never been a huge rap music fan, but this is quite catchy. Don’t ‘ya think?

Yes, catchy indeed! Keep rappin girlie!
I too am vertically challenged and can sympathize with many of the situations you wished you were taller. 🙂

Very catchy – maybe I should start singing it too? I always say that at least my legs reach the ground… even if I’m not as tall as I’d like to be. I am taller than 3 of my older sisters though, so that makes me feel better 🙂

You really went WAY back with that song, didn’t you?!LOL
Becoming Me says
I never heard that song before, but that picture cracked me up!!

That is too funny. They might as well have put the mirror on the ceiling, at least you could see yourself.

I laughed and laughed, because I was wondering WHAT you were going to do when your other hairdryer went out! They DO need to renovate those bathrooms! HA! I think you may need to borrow the children’s stepstool????? Hee-hee!
Erin says
That is too funny!

We had that same problem in the UK-I think it is a safety issue if there is a medicina cabinet that is too low (for kiddos to reach). I basically couldn’t see in the bathroom mirrors for 8 years.
It does make for interesting “do’s” though 🙂
