I had the opportunity to be a part of a conference call with Hillary Scott about her new album Love Remains today and I’m thrilled to share my thoughts from that with you!
I was somewhat familiar with Hillary Scott from listening to country music and hearing her well known band, Lady Antebellum. And after listening to the new single from Hillary’s new album, “Thy Will”, I was intrigued to learn more about her and her story.
Each of the bloggers in this conference call were able to submit a question to be asked of Hillary during the interview.
My question for her was, “What do you love about the message of your new album?”
She answered that she loves that the message of this upcoming album is hopeful. She said that it gives the encouragement to anyone who is going through struggles to press on. I love that! She also said that this album is uplifting and positive from the top to the bottom.
I am definitely anxious for the release of Love Remains, produced by Ricky Skaggs, on July 29. I love that this is a break away from the country music that Lady Antebellum is known for to a more faith based album involving Hillary and her family.
The album was originally going to be done only for a small number of people who were an encouragement to her family during the recent passing of Scott’s grandfather, but it was decided that it would be released to a larger audience who really need to hear the message of encouragement and faith it gives.
The songs on the album also morphed into something different from the hymns that were originally planned. I love hearing the old hymns of our faith, but I am thrilled about the songs on this album that shares the family’s heart through detailed stories and personal journeys.
Her single “Thy Will” is one such story.
Hillary was very honest and transparent talking about the story of heartbreak and loss that sparked this song. She wrote it during a time when she was miscarrying a baby. It was during a week of waiting to know if her pregnancy was healthy or not that she found herself losing the ability to find peace and praying the prayer of our Savior, “thy will be done“.
I’ve been in situations where those were the only words that I could pray as well and I can relate to how she must have felt in that moment.
“Thy Will” is a pouring out of what was going on in her heart as she found peace through her relationship with God.
During the conference call I enjoyed hearing Hillary speak about her husband and young daughter. Her love for both of them were evident in every word she spoke. She spoke of many of the internal struggles that every mom faces. She spoke genuinely of her desire to do the best for her daughter.
She ended with a piece of advice that we all need to hear and heed: Be kind to yourself.
Hearing those words what just what I needed in a time when I am constantly reminding myself to extend the same grace to myself that I do to others.
I am looking forward to listening to all of the hopeful, encouraging and uplifting songs on Love Remains when it releases next week.
Love Remains releases on July 29, but Hillary’s single “Thy Will” is available for download on iTunes now.
