I have been fighting an awful stomach virus all week.
I thought I was over it yesterday, so we made plans to go out to eat at Chili’s Restaurant that’s located on the Air Force Base close by. Around mid-day my stomach started cramping, but it wasn’t terrible, so I decided to just be tough and ignore it as much as I could. I really wanted to go out…
When I tried to get out of the car at the restaurant, I could barely move it hurt so bad. The thought crossed my mind that at least we were close to the hospital in case I needed Keith to take me to the ER.
We made our way into the restaurant only to be told that they were experiencing some kitchen problems and didn’t know when they would be resolved. Basically, they could only serve fried food…it was being worked on but they had the same problem that morning and it took a couple hours to fix. They recommended that we go to another restaurant on the base, so we did.
I was in serious pain by the time we got seated at the second restaurant. Keith asked if I just wanted to go home but I said no….we were already there and seated.
I made it through dinner but we did cancel our plans to go shopping afterwards.
I went straight to bed when we got home.
It was nice to be able to allow myself to get sick and have Keith here to take care of the kids for me. He was so good to put them to bed all by himself.
On a side note, I think I’ve gotten sick almost every single time my husband has returned from an extended time away, weather from a deployment or from field training. I think that when he comes home my body if able to relax and allow itself to get sick. I’m often in “survival mode” when he’s away and I’m the only parent in the home and I feel like I just CANNOT BE SICK!
Needless to say, I slept in this morning and was feeling better….a little weak from being sick, but definitely better.
As I was waking up and getting ready to get out of bed I heard this conversation go down between Keith and EA.
EA: Where’s Mommy?
Keith: She’s sleeping in this morning.
EA: Why?
Keith: Because she can.
EA: Because she is old.

If sleeping in means you’re old, then I must be ancient! Our schedule is such that Duncan often doesn’t get home till midnight or later – so, our mornings are not as early as yours LOL.
I love me some sleep *sigh*
I hope you feel better soon – and I am thanking God that Keith is able to take care of the kiddos while you rest up!

If being old means I get to sleep in than I am all for it. Hope you feel better and that its not catching. I’d hate for the family to get it.

I am so sorry to hear that you feel so miserable. I am sure that has got to be frustrating to be sick now that Keith is home. But how wonderful to have him there to care for you and the kids. Your children crack me up! I love that sleeping in makes you old!!

Oh Monica – that’s a beautiful story. The part I like the best is Keith’s answer, “because she can”. What a beautiful thing to have your other parent-half home with you again. That must be such a HUGE weight off your shoulders… and “old” body and mind! LOL

Monica – I am so glad you are being blessed by Keith’s presence and I think you’re right your body is saying “alright already I’ve done enough these past XX months” I hope you feel well soon and I know Keith is taking great care of those kiddos – so REST up!

Awww… sorry to hear your under the weather… I will pray for you… you do know bed rest is best…. I had the flu about 5 or 6 months back… it just wouldn’t go… I finally did the “parent cure”… when I was a child and we were sick we stayed in bed… ate our meals in bed… only got up to use the batheroom and to brush teeth…. and you know… it worked… you were probably worn out… and finally your body said enough!
Rest, pray… and thank the Lord for your loving husband… as for the “old” comeent…. probably the first of many to come… kids say the darnedest things!
Get well soon!
