I’m later than usual in posting today because I’m making a commitment not to blog until our school day is done. I’m limiting my social media time in the mornings because, while I love the connection, it can be a huge distraction.
Last weekend we went to a pumpkin patch while visiting my family.
There wasn’t a whole lot to this pumpkin patch compared to others I’ve been to.
They didn’t have an actual pumpkin patch. Their pumpkin harvest didn’t to well this year, but they did have a few pumpkins for sale that they purchased.
There were some swing tires set up, a corn box (think sand box but with corn), and a huge slide made with a long pipe propped up on hay stacks.
While this was such a simple pumpkin patch we spend a couple of hours there with the kids having a blast! And they weren’t very happy about leaving when we did.
I was tempted to turn my nose up at the offerings here, but then I noticed how much the children were enjoying it. I love how it doesn’t take much to entertain and satisfy children.
It struck me that I should be the same…like a child.
The same is true in regards to faith.
Jesus said that we should have faith like a child.
Children don’t require a ton of explanations. They accept what they’re given so simply. I am constantly amazed at the faith of my own children.
The gospel is really simple and so often we try to complicate it. We refuse to accept the grace that is offered to us to freely by God in His great love for us.
In our effort to over complicate and to refuse to accept the gift of salvation that is offered to us with the faith of a child, we deny ourselves such great blessings.
I want to be more like my children at the pumpkin patch…enjoying the simple and being perfectly content with and not over complicating the gifts that are given to me, especially in my faith.

The best memories with our children are made in the most simplest of ways. Those tire swings look so fun!
