Every night before bed, I read to my children.
It’s a routine that started when my oldest girls were just babies.
This has become one of the most important parts of our days.
This has looked different at different stages in our life. Sometimes I have read to everyone together.
Now, I am reading to Will and the girls separately.
The time I spend reading to Will is a blessing to our day.
No matter what has gone on during the day, this ends our day on a happy note.
Sometimes it is tempting to just tuck him in and forget about the reading. It takes time.
Sometimes I would rather just turn our the lights and be done for the day.
But whenever I make the choice to spend this time with my little boy, sometimes disguised as a pirate, I am blessed with smiles and snuggles.

This reminds me of a conversation with my kids during a bedtime reading ritual. It’s from three years ago, but it still cracks me up. Only my kids could combine Joshua’s battle in Jericho with pirates and nudity. 🙂 Here’s a link: http://tanyadennisbooks.com/2009/06/11/an-attempted-scripture-reading/
