This is my children’s memory verse in homeschool this week.
I think it’s very appropriate being election week.
Let’s remember who we belong to.
Not only who we belong to, but who the whole Earth belongs to.
The Earth is the LORD’s.
No matter what happens with the election that our country is facing, the Earth is the LORD’s.
No matter who our president is in January 2013 or 2054, we belong to the LORD.
I have to be honest and say that my heart is burdened today because I think many have forgotten this. I have seen so many Christians get caught up in the politics of our day that we have forgotten who we belong to.
I have lost respect for friends as they have attacked their political “enemies” with words full of hate.
I have seen them bully, name call, and give a sad witness to the world of who we are.
We, as Christian women and men are called to a higher standard…a much higher standard.
We are called to love our enemies.
Even if they disagree with us.
Even if they have a different opinion.
Even if they are liberal.
Even if they are the president of the United States that we oppose.
We are called to love, grace, and mercy.
We are called to love our neighbor as ourselves.
Not just our Christian neighbor who believes just as we do, but our neighbor living in sin and depravity.
We are called to love selflessly.
We are called to forgive again and again and again.
We are called to watch the words that come out of our mouth, because they flow from what is inside our hearts.
We are called to live out the fruits of the spirit.
We are called to live as witnesses to a lost and dying world.
As you go out to vote today, discuss events with neighbors and friends, post on facebook, and watch the news, remember whose you are and how you can faithfully live out His calling on your life.

Thank you! This is SO good! I like to stay informed about politics and current events, and normally I would be so caught up in angst and worry and fear, but I really, really believe that the outcome of this day will be the plan of God. Our salvation is not in politics, and I believe that God truly does rule in the affairs of men.
