Last week Keith asked me to get a babysitter for the kids and come to his work to judge a bake-off contest some people in the office were having.
That was a lot of fun and I had a blast being a “judge” for this event.
The desserts were delicious and the competition was fierce.
And then as I was preparing to leave, I realized that this was all a ruse.
His deputy commanding officer asked me to stick around a bit and there was some movement as people kind of crowded around in a semi-circle. At first I sat back down to relax because I thought maybe he needed to speak with my husband about something and I was going to just wait around.
And then he walked over to me with a cunning smile on his face, so I knew something was up.
The real reason for my being invited there was so I could be presented with a plaque of recognition.
I actually designed the print in this plaque myself and it has become a standard gift within the Brigade. The commanders wanted to thank me for helping out within the brigade and especially for designing this for them.
I am so very grateful for their recognition…more than they would ever know.
You see, one of my biggest struggles as a homeschooling, stay at home mom is that of feeling like a failure in almost everything that I do.
I don’t ever *feel* completely capable and/or successful.
There isn’t much that I do that is tangible.
Parenting isn’t tangible.
Friendship isn’t tangible.
Homemaking isn’t tangible.
The fruits of much of my labor isn’t quantifiable.
To be recognized for doing a good job with a task is pretty rare in my line of work. 🙂
It was an honor to be recognized by my husband’s commanders and co-workers.

Monica, this is so COOL! The smile on your face says it all. What a sweet and rewarding moment of recognition for you!

Awww.. Monica that is such an AWESOME of the week. I am a working mom and don’t always feel the success. Most days I feel like I’m not doing enough… But, I’m thankful that I serve a God that sees my value! 🙂 🙂
