Okay, so I was in desperate need of something quick to blog about tonight. Why? Because I am totally addicted to sharing my life with all of you and the day just felt incomplete without it. But the day has also been long and it’s late and I’m tired, so I knew that my brain could not handle much thought.
So…I went looking though my facebook notes to find the perfect meme for you. I have had several (okay, two) requests to continue our love story with the actual wedding. I would love to share more about that. I’m sure I will in more narrative form. In fact, I am planning to extend the series into a more general “Our Story” to include stories of how our family grew and other important moments I want to save and share.
I did find the perfect quick way to share with you about our wedding day.
I hope you enjoy….I just know this is going to turn in to a much longer endeavor, but that’s completely okay.
My Wedding Day
1) When was your wedding day?
We were married on May 27, 2000.
It was actually just a few days after school was out after my first year of teaching. I was afraid that it would get messed up by a make up snow day, because we had a ton of snow in SC that year. But, thankfully the district forgave the missed days. Not that I would have missed my wedding for a snow day of teaching unruly kids, but I didn’t want to have to worry about it either.
2) What day of the week was it?
Saturday
3) Did you get married in a church?
Yes…Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Ware Shoals, SC. It was a very small rural church! Keith was the youth pastor/associate pastor there at the time.
4) How many in your wedding party?
We had a very simple wedding. I think there is such beauty in simple. My sister was my maid of honor and Keith’s dad was his best man. We also had a beautiful flower girl, his niece, Caroline. And we had I think three ushers.
5) How many guests were invited to your wedding?
I cannot remember….I want to say around 150-200 because we invited all the church members, but I honestly can’t remember. I know we didn’t have that many there in attendance. But I am so thankful for every one of them!!
6) How long did you wait to Tie The Knot after your proposal?
Severn months…we were engaged on Oct. 9, 1999. That’s funny….I always thought we were engaged for nine months and did’t realize until I just counted it up that it was only seven. I guess it just felt much longer because I was so in love and ready to “tie the knot”.
7) Who did you hire as your photographer & videographer?
The father of one of Keith’s childhood friends was our photographer and he did an excellent job. We didn’t have a videographer.
8) Did you have a DJ or a band?
Neither, the reception was in a Baptist Church and Baptists don’t dance.
I didn’t even realize that people actually danced at weddings until after I graduated from college….I led a very sheltered life! Not much dancing around where I grew up!
9) Did your father walk you down the aisle?
yes
10) What color were the bridesmaid dresses & groomsmen vests?
My sister’s dress was an aqua blue color and the groomsmen wore suits.
11) Who was your Maid Of Honor/Best Man?
The Maid of Honor was my sister, Jessica. And the Best Man was Keith’s dad.
12) Did you have a Bridal Shower?
Yes, I had several of them.
13) What type of limo did you get?
We didn’t get a limo
14) Where did you go for your Bachelorette/Bachelor Party?
We didn’t have one
15) What type of wedding gown/tux did you two wear?
Keith wore his formal military uniform, Blues, and I wore a simple wedding gown.
16) How was the weather?
It was a beautiful day!
17) Where did you go on your Honeymoon?
We went to Jenny Wiley State Resort Park in Kentucky. Kentucky has an amazing state park system. We’ve used them for several vacations. And I ate lots and lots of Derby Pie…my favorite!
18) What was your favorite part of your wedding day?
Besides actually marrying Keith, my favorite part of the service was the congregational hymns. We had the wedding guests sing “Holy, Holy, Holy”, my favorite hymn, and “All Hail the Power”, Keith’s favorite hymn. It was beautiful. We also put an affirmation of our salvation in Christ in our vows. That was pretty neat, too!
19) How long have you been married?
This May will make nine years. Hopefully, Keith will be home to celebrate it with me….we’ll celebrate it either way, though.

I loved seeing a picture from your wedding! You made me laugh when you said Baptists don’t dance. I’m from SC too, and I never knew people danced at weddings until I was grown and saw it on TV. Guess I was sheltered too! Great story!
