I had my first OB appointment since right before we left Germany yesterday.
It was such a relief to finally get to a doctor. Not that I had any huge concerns, but just to be into a routine with that, took a load off of my shoulders. I’ve never ever missed an appointment and it felt odd to go from 10 weeks to 18 weeks without seeing a doctor.
When I called to make the appointment I was scheduled for an ultrasound and an appointment with the OB. In case you’re in the Virginia area, I’m using Virginia Physicians for Woman and absolutely love them thus far!! I thought it was odd that they would schedule an ultrasound so early, but just went with it, as I do most things.
It wasn’t until we were in the waiting room that I started to wonder if I would really get an ultrasound. And I didn’t.
Which is really fine and dandy with me since we still don’t have a boy name picked out yet (yes, we do find out “what it is”).
Any name suggestions??
We’re usually on top of things with one name for each gender (or more as was the case with my twins) picked out before the BIG ultrasound. But not this time…MC even picked out the girl name that we have.
Anyway, my appointment went really well. I am measuring exactly 18 weeks as I should be and the baby’s heartbeat sounded incredibly beautiful to my ears!!
We weren’t able to hear the heartbeat on doppler at our first appointment in Germany, so I’ve been waiting for that miracle sound for eight weeks.
I’m feeling great except for really bad back aches and for that I’m learning to take it easy(ier). Moving overseas during a pregnancy has proven to be much harder than I planned for it to be. I don’t like to be a complainer and I find myself complaining much more than I would like. I like being independent…being able to care for myself and everyone else around me, too. And I am finding myself having to depend on my family more…on the children to do more chores and on Keith to help me with household tasks.
I have started to feel some movements from the baby. I cherish every one of those! They’re such an amazing reminder of God’s marvelous work in creating new life.
I have a prominent baby bump, too, that I’ll have to share with you when my husband gets home from work. I tried to do some self-portraits and I didn’t even get myself in over half of them!
Before we left yesterday, we were able to schedule an anatomy scan ultrasound (aka “The Big One”) to be in just two short weeks! And not that I know it is really coming, we’re going to get on the ball with picking out baby names. I’ll be so excited to share the happy news with you all!
Until then, feel free to send some good baby naming vibes our way!

Glad you finally got into an apt! Where is your hospital – I’m from the area, but don’t know the clinic off the top of my head? I am not looking forward to PCSing at 35 weeks this time around. I am currently viewing the 15 hour flight as a form of torture! 🙂 Hope everything continues to go smoothly!

Hey Monica,
Congratulations! I’m sure you’re so excited and hope everything’s going well with your pregnancy, etc. Seems like just yesterday I was pregnant, and everything’s so different with our little Kyle out of the womb, now…he’s 4 months.
Best wishes,
Christy

I’m so glad you found a doctor that you like! I know it sounded really good to hear the heartbeat after not being to a doctor in that long. Good luck picking out a name!

How exciting! Love hearing that precious heart beat! We don’t have names picked out either. So, while I’d love to be of help, I am not sure I would be that helpful! At least you’ve got a girl name… you are ahead of me!

I am sorry you have to wait 2 more weeks for the big reveal. Will it be before Blissdom?

Good luck picking out a name. I always think that’s the fun part. Hubby and I picked out a boy and a girl name. Now we have to wait until the 27th to find out what we’re having. Have fun at the ultrasound.
